J U N E I6 th . 1938 N o ; 11 HOLLYBUBN RIDGE TIMBER The proposal to log off part of the t^imber .on Hollyburn Ridge has raised quite a justifiable storm of protest through out the North Shore and -Vancouver together with a deep t-oncern lest no Way put of the difficulty may be found. The Ridge has become the chief playground, not only of West Vancouver but of all Greater Vancouver, and, once robbed of its trees, will be useless for generations.. Reeve l^ylaiid, Mayor Milleri and other individuals and organizations Are doing their utmost to save the situation, bu t so fa r it seems to be a^m atter of money, which with the ]i>resent eco nomic impasse neither the province nor Vancouver, rfor the municipalities can be expected to put up. ISRAEL The regular Mondiw evening The Annual Sports of the meeting of the Dundarave Branch of the Brltish-Israel World Federation as usual June 20, Marine Drive a t 2Sth. Speak er, Mr. H. Braddick. All are welcome. Id** At the same, time we doubt whether all the concern is quite' justified. In the' first place, why but for one of the worst m arkets in years, a f te r holding the tim ber for a long ))eriod, during which the demand was on many occosions good, especially when much of it is reliably reported to be not worth cutting? Indeed, experience has shown th a t no timber can be taken off the Ridge a t a profit. Secondly, what do the owners expect to do with the ir logs when they reach Marine Drive? They surely do not expect they will be easily granted permission to cross or make use of a highway already So con gested as to be dangerous, or to use any of our surfaced roads for hauling logs. We think that, when these questions are satisfactorily answered, it will be time to feel concerned while not slacken ing in any way any efforts to have the m atter settled. Most important of all, whatever happens, nothing could have shown more clearly the irpniiediate necessity of ■ the whole Ridge being' taken oyer as sl provincial or national park in order that there'm ay be no recurrence of such disagreeable incidents in future. i .
