Vol* XIII HOLLYBURN P.O., WEST VANCOUVER. B.C.. THURSDAY, APRIL I4th. 1938 No. 2 A Happji lEaster to All ®ur Ecahots THE PROPOSED ITALIAN AGREEMENT The result of the election a t W est Fulhanf^cleal'ly indi cated that Chamberlain's policy is not approved by the people of Ent?land. Therefore# ,if he is the champion of democracy u-liich he claims to be, he.bught to have resigned or changed it by this time. . ̂ ' ' But, afte r the m anner of all weak obstinate men, he per sists ill staying in the ru t into which he has fallen, and does noitWir. Nor will he. He prefers to listen to the orders of " thV inWrfational"ilnanciers, w horunless - all -indications fail, • have lieen the dictators -jof England's policy for some time, as we have: stated before. How valueless the much vaunted agreement with Italy will bo is proved by the fact tha t Mussolini has not withdrawn his troops from Spain which was understood to be a specific condition of the agreement. Instead fresh Italian and German levies have arrived to make sure of Franco's victory. It is ' only one more example of the . Italian d ic ta to r 's . habit of promising to make an agreem ent he has no intention of h o p ing in order to gain tim e td execute his plans of aggression. He has done it again and again since "M embarked on his conquest of Ethiopia.. Eden refused to be bitten any more. " Bui Chaniberlaih apparently will :hav^ to be kicked before the truth dawns on him. The terms of th is agreement, if and when consummated, will never be kept, unless favorable to Italy, in which case the agreement should neVer be made. The'm ills of God will never grant peace to a nation, which attem pts to purchase i f by a cowardly.desertion of Ethiopia. And only a fool would expect Mussolinfto pull out of Spain,, once i tV a s his, if for no other reason than th a t he dare not afte r his surrender of Austria to Germany. Nor will the British people in their present temper stand fo r much more being given away. „JMbre-- over, Mussolini will most certainly double-cross us over any arrangement he. .may make inimical to, Germany following: his meeting with H itler next nionth. • , . | One could laugh a t the European situation today as t 3̂ ic - aiiy Gilbertran,' if*it"tiid'̂ nofe6nteiH?'^he*seeds^of ofUiHBmpii^ff --potential-ruin^ -H itler rWth a greafiflourish -oT trum petstJtoMs- "~a^]ebiscite~to"endorse~his~sei2iUre"5 f^ ^ u s tn a when- m ost -of-- the possible objectors have'been killed,, driven out or .placed in a position where they cannot or dare not vote 'against it.
