Vol. X II HOLLVBURN Ro., WEST Vancouver; b.c., Thursday, November 4th. 1 9 3 7 No. 31 . , BUY A POPPY Poppies for remembrance I During: the next few days the ivsidunls of West Vanoouver in common with others all over ranacla will be asked to buy a poppy, and all of these emblems of sacrifice have been made in the Red Cross workshops by h-Klly crippled veterans. That is all they can do. It is a long cry from the days o f the Great War. The years are passing swiftly, and with their passing also .the ranks of the Veterans are thinning in an^ ever increasing crescendo. Wounds, sickness, privations from physical inabil ity <0 do a full day's work, and premature, old age, all of them the results or afterrresults of service in the field, are taking their inevitable toll, and soon thie men who foUght for Canada in the Great War will have vanished as completely from the earth as have the old Roman Legions.; Already ,a generation lu,ts arisen t6 manhood and womanhood who know nothing of the. anxieties and sufferings of tha t time when the world went inad. - The money th a t will be collected from the sale of the poiipies here will, we understand; be used, solely t o 'relieve distress among West Vancouver ex-service men and the ir de- poiidents. This' year the need, for the money will be greater than ever, because in spite of the^ever thinning ranks the effect of time on weakened'and wound-shattered bodies is mak ing it increasingly difficult for those wHo a ra le f t to< provide for themselves and their families. Let us, therefore, be gener ous. , Nor must we forget those who passed on the field of honor. If more fortunate than" many, who still live on, they are none the less entitled to our reverent memories, for they earned all that'they : have- wonr To quote"from 'a panel on the V im y' Memorial: ■ : . "They Shall Flourish in Immortal Youth." The stars shall, fade away, the sun himself - Grow dim with age, and nature siiik in y ears; " B u t'"they" shall flourish in immortal youth.
