West Vancouver Historical Society Strategic Plan (2019-2021) Board members engaged in a series of meetings over 2018/2019 to develop a roadmap to guide its activities over the next 3 years. Many aspects were reviewed ranging from the business environment, membership interests, financials, partnerships and other factors influencing the ability of the WVHS to deliver on its mandate. Input was sought from members. The plan is a summation of the ideas and priorities determined by this process. The society gratefully acknowledges all those who contributed their time, energy and ideas. The Plan In the next three years, the West Vancouver Historical Society will fulfill its mission and ensure a sustainable organization by focusing on the following 6-point plan: 1. Offer diverse event programs and partner with others to increase member and community engagement 2. Publish and promote West Vancouver historical information and oral history 3. Support preservation of historical materials 4. Support and advocacy for Point Atkinson Lightstation 5. Increase awareness of WVHS initiatives and WVHS influence through representation on municipal and local committees 6. Maintain WVHS sustainability with a strong board, membership and financial resources Details on the actions in each of the 6 key areas can be found in the Strategic Plan posted on the WVHS website www.wvhs.ca under About Us/Governance/Reports. We welcome feedback! Local Voices: Wild West Van .. .by Laura Anderson Wild West Van, the second of our Local Voices series held April 3, explored the natural world in our community through the voices of 4 speakers: Dr. Jenny McQueen, educator and scientist, Lisa Brasso, a member of the Suzuki Foundation's Blue Dot movement, and Dave and Gerry Brewer, who were among the founding members of North Shore Rescue in 1965. Their stories launched a round of backcountry adventure tales, some challenging, most culminating in laughter and another round of mountain tales, all, believe it or not, true stories. Our thanks go to all for the foray into the wilds of West Van, and thanks to Elwin Xie and Kerry Regier who recorded the talk. Local Voices resurfaces Wednesday, June 5, with On the Water, at West Vancouver Memorial Library, Welsh Hall at 7 p.m. 5 http://www.wvhs.ca
