Mr. Mshon is 72 years old, but in spite of his age he was for some time learn- ing to use the skiis. ~ ~ ~ Little Donald Penn of 2476 Bellevue Avenue, who is 9 years old, had his leg broken last week while playing marbles on the grounds of Pauline Johnson School as the result of being run over by another boy on a bicycle. He was taken to North Vancou- ver General Hospital, where his injury was attended to. ~ c c George Gibbs of California, has been staying at the Clachan for the past week. ~ ~ A chimney fire occurred at 10:SO a.m, on Sunday at the home of R. B. Rhodes, 1269 Esquimalt Avenue. The brigade put it out, no damage being done. Dorothy Rhodes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. The first portion of the program consisted of Miscellaneous Items, Mid-Victorian Song Pic- tures and Old Melodies in Southern Setting, au the num- bers being well done and the dresses and setting wholly charming. It might be mention- ed that two of the dresses loan- ed for the occasion were worn at one of Queen Elizabeth's balls. The play, "A Matrimonial Emergency," written by Mrs. F. Bowman of 19th and Waterfront and which comprised the second part of the program, was very bright and witty, and the parts were well taken by the various actors. The hall was filled on both nights, the total proceeds going to the West Vancouver Welfare Fund. On Friday even- ing hire. She took as a major subject "Philosophy" and for s minor "Education," writing a thesis on "A Study of .Scepticism in Morals." Edward Otty Lunn, 1259 Gordon Avenue also won the degree of M.A.Sc., majoring on "Electrical Engin- eering," while his minor sub- ject was "Physics." Iat IIa itef- LEGION IVELFARE DANCE Another of the weekly dances was held last Friday evening in the Legion Memorial Hau in aid of the food canservation plan of the local branch, under the management of H. Walker. There was a good attendance, and excellent music was provid- ed by fhe G. Childs and Roy Lowe's orchestra, which played many requested numbers to the delight of those present. Tom Smith was kept busy calling oif the squares, which were enjoyed by afi and which, combined with the enchanting melody and sub- dued lighting effects, served to make the evening one of pleas- ant relaxation. On next Friday evening an- other of these weekly features will be held with continuous dancing from 9 to 12 p.m., and a splendid program is being ar- ranged for a large attendance.
