SCHOOLS BAND IN THIRD ANNUAL CONCERT KEW BEACH his predicted that we are io have a very hos, dry, summer. Make arraugamcuts uaw for your Summer Cottage at Kew Beach For a junior organization that has only been three years in the making the West Vancouver Schools Band gave an excellent account of themselves at their third annual concert last Friday evening in the Inglewood Audi- torium which was crowded for the occasion. Last year's con- cert was a great improvement on the first, but the band on Fri- day showed remarkable progress for one year's work. No fault could be found with their rendi- tion of marches and the simpler pieces, and, if in the heavier numbers some discordant notes were at times in evidence, an- other year will supply the neces- sary experience, and by then they should be able to play all the regular band music like vet- erans. The cornet solos and the cornet trio were very well done, as also the xylophone solo, for which an encore was given at the conclusion of the concert. Altogether great credit is due Bandmaster Jordan and the band's manager, J. E. Condon, for all their work in bringing the band to its present state of efi'iciency. The assisting artists were Dorothy Greenwood and Betty Blair, who sang a duet very acceptably, being each the recipient of a bouquet, and Mary Bradshsw, who gave a humorous reading in a manner which delighted the audience. A pleasing festal of the eve- ning was the presentation by Tom Timbrell on behalf of the bend of a radio lamp to J. E. Condon, who thanked the band for their gift in a brief address. Trustee Russell also spoke in ap- preciation of those ladies and others who had helped the band at last year's camp and in mak- ing the uniforms.
