CHORAL SOCIETY IN FINE CONCERT There was a large -attendance on Tuesday evening for the final concert of the season given by the West Vancouver Choral So- ciety under the baton of J. Haydn Young, in Hollyburn Theatre. The two part songs, "Border Ballad" and "Song of the Gale," went with plenty of vim, while the two sea chanties with Aubrey Clarke as soloist were given in regular rollicking sailor fashion. The ladies chorus rend- ered "Spinning Chorus" with considerable delicacy, and Mrs. V. VanSickle fully deserved the encore the audience demanded for her two piano solos, in which she showed her complete mast- ery of the instrument. SulliVan'0 "Golden Legend," which occupied the second part of the program, was on the whole very creditably rendered. The different solo parts were ex- tremely wea taken, special praise being due Mrs. Howard Leggstt for a really brilliant perform- ance. The accompanists were Miss Margaret McIntyre at the piano, hfrs. Rex Anthony at the organ with Alan McIntyre, cel- list. President Aubrey Clarke gave 0 brief address during tho evening. The fioor lamps lent by the B. C. Electric Co, added considerably to the attractive- ness of the stage. WEST VANCOUVER Christian Science Society CHURCH EDIFICE zsih ssd Esqsimsii. C. Reeve Leylsnd was elected 0 member of the executive council for this year. A number of important reso- lutions were adopted by the con- vention, the chief of which were: 1.--That measures be taken to grant extension for the periods of taxation redemp- tion to home owners whose property might otherwise be sold for taxes. 2. --To request the federal gov- ernment to bring forward measures for the reduction of interest rates on federal, provincial and municipal debts. 3.--Protested against the im- position of the burden of social services being placed on municipalities and re- quested that legislation in this respect be repealed, also expressed serious con- cern if there should be any further attempt to reduce grants. 4.--The convention reaffirmed their old position that un- employmcnt is a national responsibility, as the feder- al government has almost unlimited powers and sourc- es of taxation, and therein lies the only hope of finding the monies necessary for handling the situation. 5. --That municipal and city councils should be given control over the costs of education. 6. --That the present penalty on arrears of taxes be reduced from 15 to 10 per cent. 7.--In respect to 40 per cent. ad- ditional allowance granted for relief purposes for shel- ter, fuel, and clothing as re- quired it wss requested that allowance be made applic- able to aggregate of amount received by recipients dur- ing any one month snd not to individuals. 8. --Protested against advanc- ing date of municipal elec- tions one month for the reason that the fiscal and Dr.MBrjory MCCubbln DENTIST Hours 0 s m Io 0 p. m Sstsldsys: 10 s.m. m I p. ls.
