CORRESPONDENCE The Editor, West Van News. Dear Editor:--I want to ssy how much we enjoy "Subadar's" little column. It is pithy, full of humor and unlike most news- paper columnists, he is not a- fraid to speak his opinion, to which all of us are entitled. I am sorry Mrs. Glacd should feel aggrieved, although criticism is good for us all, but, whoever "Subadar" is, he has given us some very enjoyable moments, so Happy New Year to him snd yourself. &L BULKLEY. C. Municipalities, dealing with un- 'mployedrelief measures, was T. I given out at the Legislative Buildings through Hon. Wfllism McKenzie, chairman of the un- employment relief committee of i ' the executive council. The reply is to be forwarded to A. )Veils Gray, M.L.A., sec- retary of the union, snd to munl. cipsl representatives. The memorandum contains flve typewritten pages and is s complete review of the unem- ployment situation In B. C. The government reiterates its policy that no bona flde needy person should suffer through the lack of necessities of life, offers the; fullest co-operation with the " cities and municipalities, but at ..I the same time reminds the mun- p'I icipslities that each must bear ';.,'-„'ts full share of responsibility. It is apparent from the report „', that the government intends to stand by the relief scale as an- nounced recently and sets out the reasons why it considers the 'tr i f~ .-- scale adequate to assist in the~ care of British Columbia's needy. The statement bears out the' contention of medical experts ~ that the health of the people of the province wss never better than at the present time and therefore that the scale adopted by the government appeared adequate, but admittedly did not provide for luxuries. The report states that the',. government is always ready to listen to the representations of "$ any municipality, snd is ready to make special arrangements for housing where the circum- stances demand.
