RELIEF PLANS The Provincial Government will sign an agreement with the Federal Government during this week covering the financing of unemployment relief works here, during the coming winter. Priemier Tolmie had the agreement before him on Mon- day signed by representatives of the Federal Goverwment. It pro- vides for the expenditure of 8900,000 by the federal authori- ties to assist relief work in this province. The Provincial Gov- ernment does not regard this as final, however, and should the situation demand it, will ask for a further federal contribution. Meanwhile applications for pro- vincial assistance in carrying on public works are pouring in from municipalities at the govern- ment's invitation, These are be- ing handled by the public works department, and ageements be- tween the government and muni- cipal councils, will be reached during the next few days. In this wsy each municipality will know exactly how much help it may expect an meeting the un- employment problem. The sug- gestion, printed in some news- papers, that British Columbia has been behind other provinces in reaching an arrangement with ihe federal authorities, was de- nied by the Premier. He explain- ed that the Federal Govern. ment'0 proposals in written form had only reached him last Mon- day, but that they had been in- formally agreed upon between him and Senator Robertson, min ister of labor, in Ottawa, several weeks ago. Dear Sir:--Now that the rate- yayers have pledged themselves to yay something Bke 8255.000 as I understand for bank, bridge and water by-laws, it is going to be heavy taxation to pay in s lump sum yearly for most of us. Therefore, I would suggest as some of our neighbors sre doing. getting legislation into eifect, for payment of half tax, half yearly, say end of June and end of De- cember or January. This, I be- lieve would not entail such 0 hardship. It would be 0 kindly sy'rlt shown to some in these rather hard times. hL BULKLEY. October 17, 1980. Hollyburn THEATRE'HURSDAY FRIDAY xxs SATURDAY 'SALLY'ith hf ARI L YN 5 I f LLKR To the Fditor, iVest Van News. Sir:--West Vancouver is to be congratulated on the formation of yet another Club, making the list of Societies, etc., in this small but progressive Municipality surely reach the 999th. Yet, if those that follow, aim for the high standard of attainment that seems to be the ambition of the Musiciars Club of West Vancou- ver we shall be, indeed, happy to welcome their formation. When we consider that all of the talented artists who assisted in the splendid yrogram given at the initial concert, were with the exception of two, West Van- couver residents, then we should be doubly proud of them, as members of our community. The aim of the new Club, it was announced, is to foster the love for the better class of music and, generally, to lift us out of the habit of listening to so much sahcailed popular music. Let us hope that the endeavors of the new Club will tend to short- en the life of what is commonly called the "Jazz Age," and to this end we besyeak for the near Club the support of every music lover in West Vancouver.
