DRAWS CROWD The carnival held in the field at 17th Street on Labor Day af- ternoon snd evening under the auspices of the Canadian Legion, West Vancouver, proved an even greater drawing card than its organizers anticipated, All the afternoon and well on into the evening the midway between the booths was thronged with a good humored crowd out to enjoy themselves. The weather was perfect, snd the various games and stalls were busy all the time. The sklttle game, duck pond, housie-housie, and the other at- tractions all had their devotees, and all di&l a flourishing busi- ness. There were two fortune tell- ing booths arranged for by the Duncan Lawson Chapter, I.O.D. E. on the grounds', one in charge of Madam Renee, who is well known as a seer, and a number went in to see what the future had in store for them. Ice cream and afternoon tea were served on the grounds by the Ladies'uxiliary of the Le- gion. Dance and Beauty Contest The dance put on by the Le- gion branch in the evening was very largely attended, there be- ing between one hundred and fifty and two hundred guests in the new Legion hall, Child's or- chestra supplied the music, and the crowd of dancers on the floor for every number testified to its excellence. Eleven members of the West Vancouver Amateur Swimming Club lired up on the platform of the hall at 10:30 p.m. for the bathing beauty contest sponsor- ed by the club. A beautiful sil- ver cup, presented by the local branch of the Legion, was the prize for this event, and was won by Miss Ivy Miles. The judges were Dr. F. E. Dorchester and Mrs. Murphy of North Vancou- ver. ILW.
