Playing before a good shed crowd, West Van. again proved that its team is going to be in the running for honors when they took the Elks into camp 8 to 6. It was the best game of the season and was in doubt un- til the last inning. Don Arm- strong made his first appearance on the mound for the local team and pitched good balL He had the antlered crew swinging at his submarine ball or, if they did it, knocking a little pop fly to the infield. He was in difficulty only in the third frame when Young drove one into deep cen- tre to score two runners, The first inning was scoreless, West Van going out in order on Pam- phlet'3 slow benders. Each scor- ed one run in the second, Elks getting three in the third, West Van came right back in the fourth with four more to take the lead. Elks tied the count 5 all in the flfth. The local boys hammered three more runs in the sixth while the Elks collected one more in the seventh. Sid Walker, who is doing duty behind the bat, is playing his best game this year, his peg to second and third snipping many hopeful runners. He can always be depended on to do his share of the batting. Wingett Irish is also getting his batting being re- sponsible for three of the runs, hitting each time with runners on bases and two out. Last night the West Van team met Native Sons at Mahon Park and next Tuesday meet the Elks on the same grounds while they will be entertained at Lynn Val- ley on the Thursday.
