HOLLYBURN Barber Shop rESTIVAL ENTRIES THIS YEAR CONSTITUTE RECORD If any proof of the growing interest in Elusical Festival work in British Columbia is required, it is found in the fact that when the date of entry closed on Sat- urday last, the secretary had ac- cepted well over a thousand ent- ries for the various competitions which ivill take place during the I estival, Dlay 1 to 11. This large number constitutes a record, not only for British Columbia, but for the whole of the Dominion, and it is a splen- did indication of the manner in which the Festival is supp!ying a musical need in the Province. This number of entries, great as it is, will be very materially in- creased on the receipt of late entries and those in the mail before the ei~iration of the date. Last year the total number of entries was 897. From all parts of the Province contestants of all ages will gath- er in Vancouver during the days of the Festival and the five ad- judicators will have little if any spare time on their hands dur- ing those bu.y days. And not o»ly among the com- petitors is the growing interest evinced, for the attendance of the public at the various compe- titions has been steadily on the increase. Last year the sale of season tickets and single admis- sions was greater than what was anticipated, and this year the Musical Festival officials will have to contend with the problem of accomodating the large in- crease in attendance which is anticipated owing to the addi- tional classes which have been added to the syllabus. Among both competitors and the general public interest in the B. C. Mus- ical Festival has very materially grown during the past few years, for it is annually becoming rec- ognised that the ivork which it is accomplishing is now undoubt- edly one of the greatest com- munity senices on behalf of the people of British Columbia.
