001C96FE Smith 's i rocerg THE AVEST VAN NEEVS NATIONAI COUNCIL OF EDUCATION TO HOLD CONFERENCE IN VAN- COUVER APRIL 8 TO 15 The executive secretary of the N:itional Council of Education has issued an outline of the ten- tative program fov the fourth triennial conference of the coun- cil, ivhich meets from 8 to 15 Apvil iii Vancouver. Among the well known Canadians who will take a prominent part are Hon. Howard Ferguson, premier of Ontario; E. W. Beatty, K C., president of the C.P.R., and Rev. Leslie Pidgeon, first moderator of the United Church in Canada. Siv Rabindra Nath Tagore is one of the three distinguished dele- gates from India. Literature will be the main topic of discussion the opening day &vhen the speakers in the afternoon will be Sir Rabindra Nath Tagore on "The Meaning nf Art," and Ernest Raymond on "The Child in Literature" and "The Massacre of the Innocents.'n the evening Sir Archlbald Strong will speak on "Literature ..nd Leisure," and Mr. Raymond nn "Through Literature to Life." Recreation will be the subject on 9th April with Hon. Howard Ferguson in the chair. The pro- gram will include an address by Comte Serge Fleury, of the French miriistry of affairs, on "The Influence of English Games on the Life of France," at a luncheon by the )Vomen's Can- adian Club, and Sir Aubrey Sy- monds on "The Playing Fields of Britain," before the Men's Can- adian Club. In the afternoon Major R. Jarman will speak on "Education for Health," illustra- ted by Vancouver school girls and boys. Address that night will be by F. Milner, on "Recreation and lioral Health," L. B. Franklin nn "Recreation and Physical Health." On 10th April the ses- s!ons on music and the drama will take place, and in the even- ing the address will be illustrat- ed by Canadian singers. Radio will be the subject April 11, when Hon. Joshua Hinchliffe and Hon. Perrin E. Baker, min- isters of education for British Columbia and Alberta, respect- ively, will be chairmen. Speak- ers in the morning will be J. C. Stobart on "Radio in Education" and Dr. Bruno Roselli on "Italy and the Radio," and at night Mr. Stobart on "Radio and Leisure." A steamer excursion on Howe Sound as the guests of E. 4V. Beatty, K.C., will occupy the afternoon. Health will be the main topic on 12th Apnl, while on 13th April, Hon. S. F. Tolmie and Mr. Beatty will preside, the subject being the cinema. The final day of the confer- ence, April 15, will be given over to a discussion on "The Influ- ence of the Foreign Film," led by Sir Charles Grant Robertson for Great Britain, Dr. Roselli for Italy, Dr. Cyrus MacMillan for Canada, F. Milner for New Zea- land and Sir Archibald Strong for Australia.
