Their influence on the lives of the younger citizens is lasting and impressive. Their decisions have to be well balanced and progressive; and their policy must combine the needs of the present as well as the future. To give our readers some idea of the extent of School Board business ive are giving some facts about the AVest Vancouver schools. This should be interesting reading to the taxpayers and parents and should assure the heartiest co- operahon being given the School Trustees in their labors. During the year 1928 the AVest Vancouver School Board had in operation 80 classrooms distributed in seven school buildings of the following sizes: 1 One-room building, 8 Dvo-room buildings, 8 Eight-room buildings, 1 Manual Training building. The amount expended on the upi'eep, repairs and replace- ments in these buildings during 1928 was $1,822.54. In ad- dition to the above the sum of $2,282.75 was spent on the grounds. The cost of the caretaking and janitors'upplies of all school buildings for the year amounted to $5,490.40. Teachers'alaries for the year totalled $45,488.00, of which $17,690.00 was contributed by the Department of Edu- cation. The following is the average annual enrollment for the past five years: 1924--Public 495; High 47--Total 542. 1925--Public 589; High 72--Total 611. 1926--Public 628; High 85--Total 708. 1927--Public 691; High 90--Total 781. 1928--Public 744; High 100--Total 844. Per capita cost on enrollment, 1928: Public School, $46.04; Interest and S. F., $ 18.29. Total $59.88. High School, $92.49; Interest and S. F., $ l'3.29. Total $105.78. Thirty teachers on the staff, 11 male and 19 female; 28 public school teachers, 5 high school, and teachers of manual training and domestic science, teaching both public and high school pupils in these subjects.
