Arrangements for the Federal annual meeting were discussed at some length and it was decid- ed toleave the matter of appoint- i»g delegates until the annual meeting of the local association which would be held on Tuesday October 8th, at the Clachan. At that meeting officers for the ensuing year will be elected. Vice president John Nvland gave notice of a motion that "the constitution be changed so that no member hold the position of president for two consecutive years. A resolution conveying to the ividow of Professor James M. Morgan the sincere sympathy of the members of the Association in her sad bereavement was re- corded; and individual members eulogized their departed friend telling of his many sterling qual- ities. A letter of condolence will be sent to Mrs. Morgan. BRITANNIA BEACH NOiV LINKED AVITH VANCOU- VER BY TELEPHONE Britannia Beach now has a direct telephone circuit to Van- couver. The seImice opened at 2 p. mey Friday, August 9, upon the completion of a new two-wire circuit along the east shore of Howe Sound, from Horseshoe Bay to Britannia Beach. At Horseshoe Bay it is connected with previously constructed lines to Vancouver. Heretofore Britannia Beach's only commercial wire communi- catio~ with Vancouver has been the telegraph service provided over one of the Dominion Gov- ernment's lines. The new circuit, 22 miles in length, required two months to build. The rugged nature of the route was a serious handicap to the work. The circuit follows the beach line, where possible, but at about the half-way mark soars to a height of 700 feet a- bove sea level for a distance of approximately two miles. Poles used for this stretch had to be hauled by hand up the cliff. The rough country and the density of the brush made it im- possible to use vehicles or mules. The 20 men on the job and the material were transported by boat. Fire, which the con- struction men aided in quelling, destroyed 1,000 feet of the new wires, which had to be replaced. --"Telephone Talk," September.
