I ~1 PORTA NT CHANG ES IN IIARRIAGE LAlV Important changes in British Columbia marriage laws were foreshadowed in Victoria on Wednesday, after Attorney-Gen- eral Pooley had conferred at length with representatives of virtually all churches in the province. Following the . conference it was indicated that the govern- ment would take steps to insure that all clergy who perform the marriage service in this prov- i»ce must be registered. This provision was supported by all clergy attending the conference, Mr. Pooley said. The ~Iarriage Act also will probably be amended to permit clergy from outside the province to perform the marriage service here provided they register. At present no one is entitled to per- from this service unless he is a recognized minister connected ivith a parish in British Colum- bia. This prevents many couples from being married by clergy- men from other provinces whom they are anxious to bring here for the service for sentimental reasons. i iORTH VAN.
