001C97B0 THE WEST VAN NEAVS NET MAP ISSUED BY LANDS DEPARTilIENTSmith 's i rocery Thei e has just been issued by the Department of Lands in Vic- toria a very interesting topo- graphical map of the Howe Sound-Burrard Inlet district. It is printed iii six colors on a scale of one mile to an inch, and a contour interval of 100 feet. The southerly limit of the map is along a line just south of False Creek. thus showing the i elation between the industrial cnmmercial and shipping areas in the city, and the main map area. To the west the map limit is Howe Sound, and on the coast Indian Arm or North Arm of Burrard Inlet. The map is being published in two sheets. Only the southern sheet is as yet available, the northerly limit of which extends to a line drawn through Pallisade and Burwell Lake. The north- erly sheet will be available in about two or three months, and will extend to just beyond the Britannia mineral belt. Among the many features shown on the map may be en- umerated the following: 1--The contours, shown with one hundred foot intervals, have been obtained as the result of txvo seasons'urveys carried on by the Survey Branch the cost of which was shared with the Department by the Gre,&ter Van- couver EVater Board. These sur- veys were made by the photo- topographical method, which consists of a scientific utilization of photographs to the mapping of country both in plan and re- lief. 2--All original district lots are shown in proper relation to the topography. 3--City streets, highways, roads and main trails are clearly shown in red. Many economic uses for this map readily suggest themselves, amang svhich may be quoted: 1--The study of water supply problems not only on the main Greater Vancouver system, but also the Lynn Creek system and other srpaller municipal and pri- vate schemes. 2--The study of transporta- tion problems not only on exist- ing lines of travel but the pos- sibility and feasibility of new locations for roadways, tram- ways, railways, pipe lines, etc. 3--From a real estate point of view the locations of any par- cels can be approximately located by reason of the fact that all original district lots are shown and the information as to rela- tive location and elevation will assist in valuation. 4--The map shows the whole of Burrard Inlet including Indi- an or North Arm, consequently it will be useful in connection with local as well as deep sea shipping and harbor administra- tion. 5--The map should be partic- ularly valuable from a recreation and tourist standpoint. All es- tablished parks and golf cours- es are shown, and such highways as Marine Drive, EVest Vancou- ver, Capilano Pipe Line road, Grouse Mountain Highway, and Barnet road. This, combined xvith the topographical informa- tion on the mountains, should make this map both a boon and an incentive to tourists, golfers, holiday-makers, hikers, moun- taineer, field naturalists, in fact tn any one from near or far who wishes to enjoy a bit of out doors in the vicinity of the larg- est urban centre in British Col- umbia. The map can be obtained from the Government Agent at Van- couver, or from the Department of Lands, Victoria, at fifty-cents per sheet.
