I'hone Seymour 10l6 and make an appointment.thought that some plan or plans can be ivorked out whereby the parks and boulevards may be im- proved by individual and com- munity effort, as has been done in other communities. Your suggestions, no matter how inadequate they may seem to you are wanted. The co-oper- ation of everyone is needed, so please come. Few flowers have received the niarked attention and been sn universally grown and admired as the tulips, and we are reluct- «nt to bid adieu to the gay array of tulips which have so pleas- ingly adorned our flower beds and borders for the past several weeks. Accordingly to the experi- ments conducted by a number of Canadian Experimental Farms, the best method of stor- ing the tulip bulbs is to pack them in dry wood ashes from June 17th to September 12th. The bulbs cared for in this man. »er were found to be in very fine condition, the colors most desir- able, the bulh solid and the outer coating favell cured with only a slight splitting. Dry sand or soil may be used with satisfac- tory results. Tulips should not remain un- disturbed in the ground for more than three years. The clusters should be divided, the smaller bulbs being separated from the first grade size and planted a- part. When the flower stalks bave bleached white it is an in- dication that the bulbs are ripe and that they should be taken up. Further experiments conduct- ed by the Experimental Farms of Canada indicate that it is best to cut the tulips when they are in their prime of blooming, be- fore going to seed. EVe are ad- vised that it is a mistake to buy choice tulips allowing them to bloom and then to seed. Of cnurse we know that seed produc- tion takes much food aivay from &he leaves which are building up i. good bulb for another year. Personally ave have found that cutting the flowers just as the petals start to fall allows you fully a week more to enjoy them in bloom and does not appear to be injurious to the bulbs. Last fall some tulip bulbs which ive intended to include in our fall planting were mislaid, and did not come to light again until February. They were plant- ed the» and to our delight ap- peared right on schedule, with blooms equal to, if not surpass- ing those which were planted in the fall.
