Eight parties of surveyors, railway engineers, mineral geol- ogists, and timber experts have invaded the vast hinterland ly- ing between Prince George and the Peace River, to find out how the Pacific Great Eastern Rail- way could be built into this country, and what traffic it could se,cure, Hon. F. P. Burden, min- ister of lands, reported to the cabinet on his return from the North on Monday. Within a few days the parties, »ow making their way by boat into an untravelled wilderness, wil] be reinforced by airplanes, Mr. Burden announced. Wvo Federal Government planes will fly to Summit Lake, base of the survey party, shortly, and the government is arranging for one or two privately-owned planes to be operated in similar work. A contract covering the use of the latter wi]1 be signed by the minister during the next few days, following the receipt of tenders from flying firms. The eight survey parties which will conduct a comprehen- sive survey of the country be- tween Prince George and the Peace are making their way northward by the usual route along the Crooked River, and from it will strike into the wild pathless territory on either side. In this way a large area wi]] be covered during the present sum- mer. As soon as the planes arrive they wi]] give to the parties dir- ection, impossible otherwise.
