Oyster Sandwiches--Chop raw oysters fine; season xvith pepper, salt and horseradish. Spread a little on a thin slice of buttered bread; Add a crisp lettuce leaf and a second slice of bread. Date and Fig Sandwiches-- Wash equal quantities of dates and figs; stone the dates; add blanched almonds in quantity a- bout one fourth of the entire bulk; then run the whole mix- ture through the food chopper. Moisten with orange juice and press tightly into baking pow- der tins. EVhen ready to use, dip the box in hot water; turn out the mixture; slice and place between thin slices of buttered bread. Spinach Wash % peck spinach, lifting it from one pan of water to an- other until no sand settles to the bottom. Cook on top of the stove over low heat or in the upper part of the roasting pan 20 min- utes or until tender. Season with salt, pepper and 3 tablespoons butter. "Chiropractic Will Help You." Southern Spoon Bread of Corn- meal Half cup cornmeal, 1 cup boil- ing water, 3-4 tsp. salt; 11/„otbsp. sugar, 1 egg, I/ tsp. soda, 1 cup buttermilk, 1 I/ tsp. melted shortening. Put cornmeal into a bowl and pour boiling water over it. Let stand until cool. Add salt, sugar and beaten egg. Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add to corn- meal. Add melted shortening and mix weil. Pour into a deep greased baking dish and bake in hot oven 30 to 35 minutes, or until brown, 375F. Stuffed Pork Tenderloin Baked 'Avo pork tenderloins, 2 cups poultry dressing, salt, pepper. Have each loin split but not cut through. Open flat. Sprinkle one loin with salt and pepper. Cover the other with poultry stuffing. Put the two together and tie securely. Spread with basting and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake in a moderate oven, 350 F., 50 to 60 minutes. Baste with a little stock. Poultry Dressing One small onion, 3 tbsp. ham fat, 3 cups snft bread crumbs, 1 tsp. salt, 1-8 tsp. pepper, 1 tsp. poultry seasoning. Chop onion and fat. Mix well together. Cider Apple Sauce Pare, core and quarter sour apples; put in kettle, half cover with boiled cider and let cook slowly several hours. Mix dry ingredients, add but- ter, milk, and vinegar very slow- ly. Cook over boiling water until mixture thickens, cover and cook 10 minutes. Add part of the mixture to egg yolks, return to double boiler. Stir and cook 2 minutes, strain and cool. Just before serving add chili sauce and red or green pepper cut in fin epieces. Council Notes The Fisherman's Bay Improve- ment Association wrote asking that the Eagle Harbour float be put in position at an early date. They were advised that the mat- ter was being attended to. The Horticultural Association was advised that any evening except Monday would suit the council on which to join directors ot the Association in hearing Mr. Hutt of Seattle discuss the beautifying of parks and boule- vardss. Dr. F. W. Nowell, secretary pro tern of a body of North Shore residents opposed to the forma- tion of a health unit, was ad- vised that the council were a- x~aiting their delegates'eport cn the joint North Shore Unit Health Committee meetings, and that no action would be taken cn receipt of his report without notifying him (Mr. Nowell) and giving him a hearing. E. E. Leary wrote the council that he would cut the poles on D. L. 1092 in about two weeks. C. H. Lewis wrote asking that the beach in front of his property"the Red Mill" at West Bay be cleaned, and inviting the coun- cil to have dinner with him at a date suitable to them, so that they could see at first hand what was required to be done. 'She council thanked him for his in- vitation and informed him the Reeve would arrange for a date. The clerk reported that $100 ivrite again to General V. W. Od- ium regarding D. Walker's house at Sherman, was referred to the chairman of the board of works. The matter of the removal of the roots left on the boulevard at 430-39-12 by the contractors a.o brought to the council's at- tention by J. B.
