Thc Ground Up A man playing a round of golf drove off with a mighty swipe, Something soared into the air. It was not the ball, however, but a big clod of earth and )~ss. "Extraordinary l" grunted the player. "Yes, sir," remarked the cad- dy. "It does seem a bit out of .the common." The IVell Dressed lian. The young woman had just re- turned to her rural home from several vears in the big city. She was exhibiting the contents of her trunk, to the admiration and amazement of her mother, who had bought her clothes for forty years at the general store. "And these," said the daugh- ter, holding up a delicate silken garment, "are teddies." "Teddy's? You don't say t Young men are certainly dffer- ent from what they used to be." --Akron Tmes. A secret session of the Van- couver City Council was held ir. the mayor's office Friday after- noon for the purpose of discus- sing the special committee's re- port on the proposed permanent zoning by-law submitted by the Town Planning Commission. It is understood that the pro- posed ordinance, as drafted by the commission, did not meet ivi th favor in the committee for the reason that it is said to be unworkable. Rumor has it that it will be scrapped. IVhen press representatives at- tempted to enter the meeting, they were informed that prelim- inary discussion was to be held in camera, and that a public meeting will be held afterwards in the Council Chamber. After ivaiting for an hour and a half the newspapermen were inform- ed that there would be no public council meeting and that no ac- tion would be taken for at least a iveek. Conference Oct. 9. It was announced after the meeting that a general discus- sion of the measure had taken place between the council and heads of civic departments and that it had been decided to hold (Continued on Page 8) IIOLLYBURN Barber Shop 16th 4 hlarine EX PRINT SERVICE E.
