At the close of the business session Miss Mas- ters of Honan, China, gave a very interesting address, Mr. Edgar Grout attended the organization meeting of the Sunday School football league in the city Wednesday night. Teams from St. Stephen's Sun- day School will be entered in the juvenile and junior divisions. The Junior Auxiliary met for the first time since the holidays last Friday at the home of the superintendent, Mrs. AV. L. Berry, 21st and Marine Drive. I. O. D. E. 'Ihe September meeting of the Duncan Lawson Chapter, I.O.D. E., was held in the Inglewood High School on Monday after- noon, September 10th, with the regent, Mrs. Small, in the chair. Tentative plans were made and committees appointed for "Arm- istice Day" and the sale of pop- pies; also for the hallowe'en dance to be held next month. A donation was voted for the ent- ertainment of the English School Girls, while in Vancouver. Tea was served by Nrs. Ogilvie assisted by Mrs. Bayfield, Airs. Leyland and Mrs. Young. The next meeting will be held at the home of i~lrs. Bernard Hayes, it being agreed that meetings in the future be held at the homes of the members. TENNIS LEAGUE FINISHES SEASON iVest Van. in Fourth Place. The Mainland Tennis League has just concluded a very suc- cessful season, 4Vest Vancouver finishing up in fourth place in the men's division. The Jericho club by topping the men's divi- sion, won the new Rotary Chal- lenge cup, presented this year to the league, Kitsilano being first in the mixed division. The points made by the vari- ous teams are as follows: Men' Division--Jericho, 20; Rotary, 14; Point Grey, 12; West Van- couver, 6; Kitsilano, 6; Nippon, 2. Then line a pan with good pastry. Put in a layer of the potatoes and part of the sugar, Hour, seasonings and but- er, the latter cut in bits over the top of the layer. Then add an- other layer of sweet potatoes, sugar, flour and butter. Add the water, vinegar and top crust. Bake in a moderate oven until ready. Almond Cookies One and one-half cups butter (softened), 3 eggs (well beaten), 1 cup granulated sugar, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cinna- mon, 1 teaspoon soda, 1 tea- spoon cream of tartar, 1 tea- spoon salt, 1-4 lb. of blanched almonds. Mix quite well with from 6 to 7 cupfuls of flour, shape into 3 rolls (like a jelly roll when moulded). Let stand in a cool place over night, slice as thin as possible and bake. Delicious Potato Cake 2 cupfuls of sugar 2-3 cupful of butter 1 cupful of hot mashed pota- toes !/~ cupful of sweet milk or cold water 2 cupfuls of flour 4 eggs 2 teaspoonfuls of baking pow- der 2 squares of grated chocolate 1 cupful of chopped English walnuts 1 teaspoonful of powdered cin- 11amon 1 teaspoonful of powdered cloves &/i teaspoonful of grated nut- meg This is a delicious cake and the potatoes keep it fresh and moist. It is especially fine for luncheons to catvy on trips and outings. Cream the butter and sugar together add the yolks of the eggs, well beaten, then the flour mixed with the baking powder and spices, and the milk; then add the potatoes mixed with the chocolate, the walnuts and the whites of two eggs beat- en stiffly. The potatoes must be hot when mixed with the choco- late. Bake either in layers or in a loaf, and ice with white icing made as follows: Put one cup- ful and a half of granulated sugar into a small saucepan, add seven tablespoonfuls of water and three-quarters of a table- spoonful of vinegar, and cook until a thread forms; then pour on to the beaten whites of two eggs and beat until cool enough to spread.
