001C957A July 13, 1928. Candidates and Votes PolledI,'at Last Election Figures for Comparison j For the next few days the one absorbing topic of conversation will be the election, hence the results of the last Provincial bat- tie will prove interesting to our readers. At the election four years ago approximately 345,618 votes were cast. Of these the Liberals polled 108,332; Conservatives 102,433; Provincials 83,298; In- Independents 6950; Independent Liberal 1674 and Labor 43,941. In the present election the Provincial Party has disappeared from the lists, so the former fol- lowers of that party, which poll- ed slightly less than 25'" of the total vote in the last provincial contest, may prove a big factor in deciding the issue next EVed- nesday. Returns of Last Provincial Battle Of the forty-eight seats in the Legislature, the Liberals carried twenty-three in the last contest; the Conservatives, seventeen; Labor, three; Provincials, three; Independents, one; and Inde- pendent Liberals, one. The Liberal ridings were: Vancouver, five seats; Atlain, Chilliwack, Columbia, Delta, Fort George, Kamloops, Kaslo- Slocan, I illooet, Nanaimo, Nel- son, New )Vestminster, North Okan agan, North Vancouver, Omineca, Prince Rupert, Revel- s ~ ~ stoke, Skeena and Yale. The Conservative seats were: Victoria, four; Cranbrook, Cres- ton, Dewdney, Esquimalt, Grand Forks-Greenwood, the Islands, Mackenzie, Rossland-Trail, Saan- ich, Salmon Arm, Similkameen, South Okanagan and Cowichan Newcastle. The Independents won Alber»i and Labor captured Fernie, South Vancouver and Burnaby. The Provincials won in Cariboo, Richmond-Point Grey and one seat in Vancouver. The Inde- pendent Liberal took Comox. In several of the ridings the majorities were close. The Con- servatives won Dewdney by thirteen votes, while the Liber- als had only fifty-two votes to spare in Fort George. In the Islands constituency the Conser- vatives had two votes to the good over the Provincial candi- date. Complete Results Four Years Ago The full provincial results four years ago were: Alberni--R.
