Ferry No. 5 happened to be in at the time, and her cap- tain laughingly offered the Indi- an owner to race him to Vancou- ver, but was informed that his canoe had beaten the ferry anumber of times already. Hestated that he could make Van- couver in 20 minutes, and, judg- ing by the speed developed bythe canoe when the Indians, their supplies secured, proceeded to- wards Howe Sound, it was no idle boast, for the craft was trav- elling at; not less than 15 miles per hour. Only when there is a just and reason- able cause for absence will this be allowed. Several instances have occurred lately of pupils being away from School without any justification, and the par- ents of these children are being communicated with in an en- deavor to make them realize that regular attendance of their children at school is imperative.
