A I.L-DA Y HIKE TO HOLLYBURN RIDGE BY 23rd SCOUT TROOI'aturday, May 19, the 23rd Troop held an all-day hike to EIollyburn Ridge. It was the first troop hike for some of the boys, who all acquit ted themselves well and showed they had the makings of good Scouts. 5?any of the boys tried cook- ing, fire-lighting aiid Scout pace tests but the few successful ones were Gordon Jane and Douglas 5TcKenzie, second-class cooking, &and Eddie Brown, fire lighting. First aid games took place on the ridge. Instruction was given on using the watch as a com- pass. After lunch a general dis- cussion on evergreen trees was conducted, and chief points of identification were explained. Later a competition was held in this connection in which the Beaver Patrol won.
