NORTH SHORE HOSPITAL PI.ANS NEAR COAIPLETION Detailed plans and specifica- tions for the new sixty-bed hos- pital, to be jointly operated by the city and district of North Vancouver, will be completed in a few days, reports william Bow, architect supervising this work. It is the intention of the Hos- pital Board to eall for tenders for the construction of the hos- pital about the end of this week, so that tenders may be consider- ed and a contract awarded at a meeting of the board to be held about May 15. At least six months will be required to com- plete the building which will con- stitute the first unit of the hos- pital ~ ROBERTS'Setter Meats 14th and Marine West: 90 "Father, freight is goods that is sent by water or land, isn't it?" "That's right, son." "IVell, then, why is it that the freight that goes by ship is called cargo, and when it goes by car it is calied a shipment?" And then Johnny wondered why his father put on his hat and saunt- ered outside to get the air. Pride goeth before a fall, which seems to be the only way it can take a tumble to itself. Colfix Co.'s Plant on North Shore To blake Rid for Roads Now that the road by-law has been finally adopted the paving contractors are making ready to tender for the work. It is but natural that these companies should wish to bring to the not- ice of the public the advantages and the virtues of the various materials, processes, and work- manship of their own interests. In this connection there appears in this issue an advertisement of the Colfix Pacific Ltd. We commend it to your consid- eration. EVe, like the average citizen, know very little indeed about such processes or methods. AVe do know when a road needs fixing, but not how to do the actual fixing. That is the work of experts. Today there are many men employed as special- ists in road-making operations, and many highly paid chemists are on the payrolls of the com- panies who undertake this class of work. The Colfix Co. is a ~vorld-wide concern. They have branches and factories in every part of the world where transportation fac- ilities are studied. Their British Columbia factory is in North Vancouver. This company claims that the Colfix road costs less and is equally as satisfactory as any other kind of paving that can be ]aid. Colfix is an emul- sion of pure bitumen. Its out- standing characteristic is that it is applied cold from the barrel or tank to the road, thus doing away entirely with the use of expensive machinery. The com- pany has evidently strong finan- cial resources, and the fact that they are interested in building the roads of EVest Vancouver will unquestionably produce an active competition for the work, which should be to the advantage of the municipality. Full particulars of all the Fes- tival events are contained in the Programme which is now obtain- able at the Festival Office, 334 Rogers Building. Municipal Hall By-Law Finally Adopted The council at their special meeting on Monday night final- ly adopted the municipal 'hall by-law No. 382. A committee consisting of the reeve, the chairman of the board of works and the municipal clerk was appointed to discuss plans for the hall addition with archi- tect Hodgson and report.
