POPPY DAY Poppies large and small will once again be sold from house to house in West Vancouver dur ing this week and next by the members of the Duncan Lawson Chapter, I.O.D.E. Five members of the Canadi an Legion and two members of the I.O.D.E. now form a commit tee to administer this Fund which will be called the "Poppy Day Relief Fund." All money raised in West Vancouver from the sale of Poppies will go to the relief of veterans and their fam ilies who are in need in the mun icipality. Poppies to be sold are made by the returned soldiers in the Red Cross workshops, Vancouver; maintained to give employment to veterans of the war. An urgent appeal to the public of West Vancouver is made by the committee for generous fin ancial support. Last year $112.- 48 was raised in West Vancou ver. It is hoped this amount will be substantially increased this year. The new automobiles are com ing in in a variety of colors, but the pedestrians will still have to be content with black and blue. Both football teams of the Sunday School continue unde feated as a result of last Satur day "s games, when the Junior A"s tied with Knox Kerrisdale away from home and the Junior B's playing at Hollyburn School defeated First Church United 5-1. The annual meeting of St. Stephen's Women's' Auxiliary will be held next Tuesday at 2 p. m. in the Parish Hall. You're only young once, but if you work it right, once is enough PROVINCIAL REGULATIONS FOR SECONDARY HIGHWAYS In connection with the classi fication of highways the coun cil has received from the Minist er of Public Works in Victoria a circular giving the regulations which govern secondary high ways. These are as follows: (a) That at the commence ment of each municipal year the municipal council, through whose municipal areas secondary high ways run, shall submit to tlr Public Works Department Eng ineer n detailed statement show ing the nature, extent, and prob able cost of all work proposed to be undertaken during the same municipal year on all sec ondary highways. (b> That no proposed works on secondary highways shall be commenced unless and until the Public Works Engineer approve of same. (c) That subsequent to the approval of the Public Works Engineer the nature and extent of the work shall not be altered without his written consent. (d) That the Department of Public Works will not be respon sible for payment of more than its allotted share of the approved estimates for each work: Provid ed that any excess expenditures over the approved estimates for each secondary highway may be proportionately paid by the De partment of Public Works on the written recommendation of the Public Works Engineer.
