September 16, 1927. THE WEST VAN NEWS 5 C O R R E SP O N D EN C E WOULD CHANGE NAME OF WEST VANCOUVER Editor:-- Dear Sir:-- I read with much interest your article, "What's in a Name," which appeared in your paper under date of August 26th, and right at the beginning of my letter let me state that I believe West Vancouver is badly handi capped, by the name it bears. No doubt at the time the name was given to your municipality it appeared quite appropriate, but like a schoolboy outgrows his short trousers and jazz cap, so has West Vancouver out grown its once appropriate name. I first saw West Vancouver in the fall of 1925,and spent the winter there, returning to the prairie in the spring of 1926. My return to the prairie was not a matter of choice. It is there I earn a livelihood for my family, and it is on the prairie that a considerable amount of money is made by several residents of West Vancouver. I personally know several families, residents of your muni cipality, who not many years ago farmed in this district, and who now are enjoying the fruits of their labors. And I commend them on their choice of a home. I have travelled extensively, have visited every province of our great Dominion and have also visited a few of the States of our sister country, U.S.A. I have also travelled from one end of England to the other, and have visited in Scotland and France, and I have never seen any place with as much natural beauty as the Municipality of West Van- . couver. I have purchased a home there and my family are perm anent residents. I still must toil on the prairies for a while through the summer months, and I can do so with a light heart and a willing hand, know ing that I can spend my winters CHIROPRACTOR Yates Building Marine Drive, Ambleside Roberta A. Pass D. C., Ph. C. Vancouver G raduate of Palmer School Lack of Health is expensive and is unnecessary. Give the Chiropractor an opportunity and he will produce results. He will make you healthy and keep you healthy Consultations free in that fairy land, West Vancou ver. Isn't it really grand even in winter? That wonderful moun tain on the north, where all the winter sports of the prairies can be enjoyed, and then to the south that beautiful body of water, the approach to Vancouver harbor. How often I have sat on my verandah at night, and watched the Pacific liners going out, or coming in, and oh, how I envy those of you, who are fortunate enough to live in West Vancou ver in the good old summer time. I am living for the day when I shall be able to call your municipality my home, both summer and winter. West Van couver has a wonderful future and in spite of any obstacles which are placed to oppose its development by those interested in other Vancouver suburbs, your municipality will be the home of thousands who appreci ate real natural beauty I suggest to you, Mr. Editor, that your municipal council, or your Board of Trade, offer a prize for the most suitable name chosen for your municipality. Let the competition be open to all, and no one can choose a name which will eclipse the mun icipality for which it is chosen. Sincerely yours for a new name for West Vancouver, ROY FAULKNER, Gull Lake, Sask.
