BASEBALL WEST VAN. EVEN UP SERIES--BEAT ELKS 7 - 4 A series of three games for the baseball championship of the North Shore is being played by the North Shore senior teams. The first of these took place last Monday, when West Vancouver met the Elks at Mahon Park, the Elks winning by a score of 8 to 5. West Vancouver started off weH, the two first batters, Stratton and Edwards getting clean hits, but each were caught stealing, and the side was re tired without any score. The Elks made 2 runs in the first inning, which West Vancouver duplicated in the second, only to have the Elks come back in their half and pile up 3 more luns, and maintain the lead throughout, winning the game by 8 to 5. West Vancouver made 8 hits off Maveety, and Blair Edwards held the Elks to 9 hits. Falcon er and Baker each made 3 hits, Jack Stratton getting 2. Man- ley Romans made a home run. Much criticism was made by the fans of some of the decisions given by Umpire McDonald. In the second game of the play off which was played at Amble- side Park last night West Van. beat the Elks by 7 to 4. Falcon er and McConiche opened the game, but eventually each of these pitchers were replaced. Maveety finished the game for the Elks and Edwards for West Van. Edwards pitched excep tionally good ball and had control of the game at all times. Jack Maveety played short stop for West Vancouver and he was the stellar performer of the evening. His two bagger started the loc als on the road to victory and his fielding at all times was snap py and sure. It as a safe bet that if Jack Maveety had been playing regularly for West Van the locals would have been a hard team to beat at any time. This now makes the series one each and the third and deciding game will be played next Monday at Mahon Park. Whimsical Review "What's good to clean ivory?"
