ELECTRIC TO BE CONSTRUCTED Construction of a new three story building will shortly be commenced by the British Co lumbia Electric Railway Com pany at the corner of Dunsmuir and Granville streets, Vancou ver. The building will be en tirely devoted to the require ments of the light and power and merchandising departments of the company. Plans have not yet been fin ally decided upon by II. H. Sim mons and the firm of McCarter & Nairne, associated architects, but it is understood that the building will be of an imposing and dignified exterior. Show room windows will front on Granville street and Dunsmuir street until within 20 feet of the lane at the rear of the build ing. The Dunsmuir street win dows will have no back so that a clear view of the merchandise on the entire floor may be ob tained. Furnished in an artistic and restful manner the ground floor, together with the windows, will be illuminated in accordance with the most modern methods of lighting. An illuminated canopy will extend over the side walk round both sides of the building. Heavy duty gas and electric appliances will be displayed in the basement. Heat for differ ent portions of the building will be furnished by a gas water and gas hot air heating plant, so that a practical working demonstra tion of each may be given. Model kitchens and laundries, one of each being fitted with gas appliances, and the other with electrical appliances, will occupy a portion of the first floor, while an auditorium capable of seating 200 people will also be a special feature of this floor. The au ditorium will be used for dem onstrations for gas and electrical appliances. Fully equipped with electrical toilet appliances, a ladies' rest room will be estab lished on the first floor. Illuminations for store and do mestic use will be displayed to advantage on the top floor amid suitable surroundings. There will be facilities in the ground floor of the new building for paying gas and electrical bills, which will be a great con venience to a large number of customers. These new premises will be ready for use by the New Year, but the windows have now' been dressed and will thus brighten this corner until such time as the work of construction of the new building commences. When this store is opened the premises occupied on Granville street near Davie street will no longer be required.
