Make good rich biscuit crust with the above, moisten with water, and roll out in an oblong shape, about % inch thick. Brush over top with melted butter, sprinkle from % to 1 cup of brown sugar and dust well with cinnamon, moisten edges and roil the longest way, pinching ends well, and pushing them in a little Moisten end of side flap, and stick in, and then cut in about V /2 inch slices crossways. Place in floured bake pan, and bake in moderate oven. Don't Bite Oif Too Much The reason why many of 11s become discouraged when we try to improve is that we attempt too much at one time. Benjamin Franklin Jiad the right idea. He made a list of his personal ideals of character and behavior, and then, (he says): "I judged it would be well not to distract my attention by at­ tempting the whole at once; but to fix on one of them at a time; till I should have mastered that, then proceed to another, and so on, till I should have gone thru the thirteen." Bankers have commonly ob­ served that the undoing of am­ bitious savers is the attempt to save too large a percentage of their incomes. And at the end of three or six months they dis­ cover they have denied themselv­ es so unmercifully that they are unhappy. Their wardrobe is in despair, their hair long, and their spirits low. If you smoke too much, drink too much coffee, overeat, under sleep, waste your money in use­ less extravagances, idle away too much time, attend too many con­ ventions and irritate your family by too much complaining, do not try to rid yourself of all these bad habits at once. For instance, suppose you make a start of going to bed one hour earlier. This act will cut down your extravagances and your complaining, because you will have one less waking hour for the commission of these crim­ es. Quite seriously, an amazing inter-relation exists in bad hab­ its. By elimination of one late night party each week a man can often reduce his smoking, coffee­ drinking, and over-eating; catch up on sleep, put $10 in the bank, and improve his temper. Self-improvement is not ac­ complished by putting onesself in jail in a straight-jacket. The better way is to study onesself. If the survey is honest and in­ telligent, it will usually reveal that a lot of wasteful, costly nonsense can be dropped with­ out any effort at all. Turpentine and soap will remove ink stains from linen. A few drops added to w ater in which clothes a re boiled will whiten them. Turpentine will remove wheel grease, pitch and ta r stains.
