Baseball West Van. Hoys Defeat First Baptists to Win Intermedi- ate Championship We congratulate the West Vancouver Intermediate Base- bail team on a inning their league championship. Rarely have we seen a learn that has played so consistently clean and enthusiastically. The exhibition given Wednesday by the First Baptists after losing the game, only intensified the feeling of admiration we hold for the West Van. team. To be a good winner is a great thing, but to he a good loser is even better. Now that the series is over and the championship yvon. let us not forget the fine work of J. E. Condon. Mr. Condon was the organiser and the manager of the team. He has given much of his time and ability unstint- ingly to the welfare of the club, and I heir success is largely due to his efforts, and to the lime he has so generously spent in (raining the boys. Friday's Game Played in Vancouver Last Friday night at Granville Park the West Van. boys proved too much for First Baptists and pounded four pitchers for a total of 24 runs; while the city boys could only collect 6. Jack Norlan d pitched good ball for the winners, going the full nine innings. He received splendid support. It was West Van.'s big night, the whole team playing the best game of the season. In the last two innings the losers tried hard to hold up the game, throiving the ball all over the field and refusing to make a put out. All games must go nine innings or be replayed. Our boys made short work of then- innings. however, and the game was finished. Wednesday's Game at Ambleside Last Wednesday night at Ambleside Park the boys had a much closer call only winning in the ninth inning after two were out. First Baptists, reinforced by several new players were out to even the count and, as in the first two games, came from behind to tie the score in the last inning. It was a good game to watch and in the last of the ninth with the score six all, excitement was intense. Strong, first batter up, grounded out, Eddie Downev reached first on a nice hit but was caught out stealing second. Art Burns reached first on a fielder's choice. Charlie Neville, next up, broke up the game when he hit a hard one past first base, stretching it into a home run and bringing Art in ahead of him to win the game 8 to 6, and the series with two straight wins. There was a considerable discussion over this play, but the Umpire picked up the ball himself just inside the fence. Jack Normand and Bill Davie pitched their usual steady game.Pat Worley of the V.A.C. handled the game in a very efficient manner.Much credit is due local boys, for the sportsmanship they have displayed throughout the season. Starting with only nine players they have gone through the series and play-offs with the same nine always on the field. Thev have won 12 games out of 13; losing one to Grandview United.Following is the line-up of the team;Stan Stronge catcherBill Davie PitcherEddie Downey...............1st BaseEd.
