AIUNICIPALITIES MAY GET AUTHORITY TO LIAIIT THE LIFE OF BUILDING I'ERAIITS Power to municipalities to limit the life of buil&ling permits was approved by the municipal committee of the legislature at the request of the Union of B. C. Municipalities, and an amend- ment to that efl'ect will be draft- ed to the act. It was pointed out that under existing conditions in munici- palities permits issued years ago aml which were not followed by construction were still in force and hindered the improvement of municipalities along town planning lines. Comptroller Pilkington of Vancouver pointed out that in that city the life of a building permit had been limited to six months, and that it was found necessary to reduce this time recently to four months. She has been a resident of Toronto for over 50 years. "She leaves two sons, J. A. Davis of )Vest Vancouver, B.C., William T. Davis of Toronto, and three daughters, Ida, Mabel and Ruby, at home. "The sympathy of many friends go out to AIr. Davis in his loss." NEIV PHONE DIRECTORY TO 13E LARGEST ISSUED The new telephone directory of the B. C. Telephone Co., for which changes and additions were received up to Tuesday, and which will be published in April, is to be the largest ever issued by the company. The company's oificials report that 91000 cop- ies, requiring 66 tons of paper, will be tssucd to the pubhc, each containing 400 pages. This shows unmistakably the growth of the company since the date of its establishment in 1888, when there were only 79 sub- scribers, whose names were pub- lished each day in the morning paper in the form of an adver- tisement. this taking the place of a directory. Now the work of getting out the directory is in the hands of a committee who spend their whole time throughout the year In making corrections, additions and dele- tions. In honor of the occasion a party was given at her home, when the following guests enjoyed the toothsome delicacies and excit- ing games of such occasions: Sylvia Morris, Joan and Barbara Sparrow, Nadeline, Joan and Frank Ecclestone, Joyce Bur- bridge, Cynthia Haslam, and Iwurena Lauder.
