Resampled001B6E43 December 23, 1927 THE WEST VAN NEWS Whimsical Review IVHY IT IVORE WELL "What a nice new hat!" said his friend, admiringly. "IVhen did you get it'!" 'Well,"was the reply, "it was like this. I bought it first in 1919. A year later I had it cleaned, and a year after that I had a new band put on. Then I wore it carefully, brushing it every morning for three or four years, had it cleaned again once or twice, and yesterday I chang- .. jf~ed it in a restaurant." That's Something Hateful Husband--Your ex- travagance is, simply appalling. When I die you"ll probably have to beg. (Vonderful Wife--We)1, I shall be better o(P than the poor wo- man who never had any prac- tice, at any rate. Ouch! He--Why isn't dinner ready? She--I'e been downtown bar- gain hunting and couldn"et home in time. He (sarcastically) -- Looking~ for something for nothing, I suppose. She (sweetly) -- Yes, dear', trying to get you a present. It Pays to Advertise Dorothy had been praying each evening at bedtime for a baby sister. The other day her mother, while reading the paper exclaimed: "I see Mrs. Smith has a little daughter." 'Howdo you know that, mamma?" Dorothy inquired. "It says so in the paper, dear." "Read it to me." Her mother read: "Born cn July 2nd, to Mr. and Mrs.-- a daughter." Dorothy thought a moment and then said: "I know what Iim going to do. I'm going to stop praying and begin advertising." Her Better Plan It was the dream hour when the Christmas dinner, having been eaten, was doing its best to digest itself, and the girls were conversing in the hushed tones appropriate to the occa- sion. Whispered Elsie:"I'e just heard of a new charm, to tell whether anyone loves you, and, if so, who it is." "What is it?" Sibyl asked, ab- sently fingering a new diamond ring. "You take four chestnuts, named each after some man you know, then put them on the stove, and the first one to pop "Oh," said Sibyl, regarding he diamond ring interestingly, "I know a better plan than that." "Do you'?" "Yes, indeed. By my plan you take one particular man, place him on the sofa in the parlor, turn the light down, sit close to him, and look into his eyes. And then if he doesn't 'pop,'ou'l know it's time to change the man on the sofa." Good Night! i The president of a small bank had received his appointment more on account of his wealth than his ability, and when dic- g+ i ~ting was not at all sure of his tiround. Turning to his stenog- rapher one day, he said: 'Let' see, do you retire a loan?" The dreamy stenographer, with thoughts miles awny, answered, "No, sir, I sleep with my mam- ma." Clubman (to lawyer friend): "Before you go, tell me if this $5 bill is a good one." Lawyer (after examining it): "Yes... Send your chauffeur round to my office and I'l give him the $2 change. Carol Singing Christmas Night Boys'hoir lo Lead Next Sunday night--Christ- mas night--community carol singing will be enjoyed by the people of West Vancouver. This is a new departure for this dis- trict. It is one which we hope and believe will meet with the approbation of the people gener- ally. The actual participation in singing is at any time a splen- did exercise. Community sing- ing though, is a thing apart, an individual exercise, a welding of the citizens and a combined joy to all. Hence, next Sunday we expect to see the Hollyburn the- atre packed to the doors. The boys'hoir under the direction of Professor Morgan will lead the singing, and, so that all may participate copies of the carols will be presented to the audi- ence. Mr. A. J. Eddy, Master Jack Watt, and the McIntyre Quartette are billed to appear in special contributions. The sing- ing will occupy one hour, 9 to 10 p.m. Doors will be open at 8.30. Admission is by silver col- lection. Gifts...
