BIRDS IN OUR GARI)EiNS (Continuwl from Page 3) would be quite n test of patience and skill, but I can assure you would be well worth the effort. These boxes represent a regu- lar npartmcnt house. and may contain ns many as 20 separate npartments. nil of which you mn). be almost sure of renting within a few v&avs As I have not had the pleasure nf seeing nny of these boxes in West Vnncouver, I am forced to believe thnt the birds we see must be nesting in some con- venient plnces on some of the houses. or else in disused nests of the woodpeckers or In nny hole in some decayed ti'ee where they lny their four white eggs. The Violet Cireen Swnllow is of course the color its nnmc de- notes, hut it has a white brenst an&i un&lerpnrts nn&l the white is continued round to the l&ack of the eyes. The Tree Swallow differs from the above hire in that tho &lark parts cover the eyes nml tho feathers at the root of the tail are nlso black whereas in the Violet Green Swallow these feathers are white. The general appearance of these two birds are very much alike an&I might be easily con- fused, an&1 it is almost impos- sible to tell these two apart when on the wing, and I am afraid that it would be impossible for me to identify these birds whilst they were flying, but should you have an opportunity of seeing them in repose, sitting either on n tele- graph post or wire I hope that the poor description that I have given you will enable you to dis- tinguish them apart. As this is my 12th article you may be getting a !ittle tired of readmg about n su) lect that I flnd so fascinating, so will give you a rest, but I &.m quite pre- pared to continue a little longer if any of my young readers so wish. Whimsical Review "If I kiss you just once no one will be the wiser." "Oh, yes, they will." "Who?" "You." 1 ~ The hunter who had been mis taken for a deer and shot, roused up an&I beckoned the hospital nurse. "Umlerstand," he said, "I do not care so much about being killed, but it's this being made game of that hurts my feelings." "Wolves!" cried the hero. "Cripes I" said the Nabob. "Aml us with no door to keep them away from!" ~ ~ ~ "This is a pretty snappy suit" remarked the baby as he was put into his rubber panties. Although a street car has its faults, it can do something that a man can't do. It can go home straight, no matter how full it is. ~ o ~ "Ah, my own, have they ever tol&l you of my heavenly kiss- es?" "Indeed, love, they are on everyone's lips." ~ o ~ )VIllis: 'A million germs will live on the head of a pin." Gillie: "That's a strange diet, isn't it?" ~ ~ ~ )Vernon (to sailor): "Are you married, my man?" "Yes, indeed, married and fourteen children." "Poor fellow, and travelling about like this. Don't you ever get home-sick?" "Only when I'm home, ma'm.' ~ ~ I asked my mother for some woollen socks for my birthday and she knitted her eyebrows. lpg?
