Salmon Caught at Horseshoe Bay Fishing from a boat at Horse- 'shoe Bay during the week-end, three Vancouver lads succeeded in landing a sixty-five-pound tyee salmon, which is a record fish for the season in West Van- couver. The boys who made the catch were Jack Bandnger, Bill Ford and Henry Miller. They were fishing fairly close to shore. Herbert Vyvyan Dead The death occurred on Sun- day of Mr. Herbert Vyvyan, a resident of West Vancouver, and previous to his retirement from the stage, a well-known English actor. The late Mr. Vyvyan, who was 67, resided on the Waterfront betfveen 13th and 14th Streets. He is sur- vived by his widow and a son, Frank, who is also on the stage. The funeral seiwices were held at 11 a. m. Tuesday at Centre & Hanna's chapel and the inter- ment took place in the West Vancouver cemetery. Calamity Point Beacon Carried Away Calamity Point beacon, so well known to West Vancouver fen~ passengers, has again been car- ried away, probably by some tugboat or tow. This has hap- pened before, and port oilicials state it will happen again, until the government sees fit to erect a concrete support. The pile sup- porte that have been used in the past give way freely when a tow of logs wraps itself about them, and a tugboat and the tide add their pull to the drag. With the fog season looming, port officials hope that the beacon will be replaced at the earliest possible moment. Mr. Malfet, the well-known big game fisherman of Vancouver, last week caught seven salmon ranging from 9 lbs. to 16 lbs. in two hours and ten minutes. Last year Mr. Malfet caught the larg- est salmon brought in in West Vancouver. BUSH FIRES A serious bush fire broke out at 3.15 a. m on Tuesday mom- ing at 22nd and Mathers. The Provincial forest ranger was there, having been notified by the Signal Station at Prospect Point. The fire brigade turned out and were successful in put- ting it out after a hard two hours'ight.
