Sir,--As you are probably aware, on Tuesday last passen- gers on the Ferries were handed a card on which Io vote «Yes" or "iVou &vhether they required a change in the service by hav- ing the boats leave Ambleside at 16 minutes to the hour and 16 minutes after the hour from the City. It is, of course, recognized that most of the passengers commence and quit work on either the hour or the half hour, and I think the move a very good one and in the interest of the upbuil&ling of the hIuni- cipality. At the present time no pro- vision is ma&le for people com- mencing work at 8.30 a.m. and quitting at 6.30 p.m. It is too long a stretch having to wait for a ferry from 6.80 p.m. to 6.16 p.m. and improved transporta- tion is long overdue. In fact the writer knows of more than one family that has left the Muni- cipality on account of preesnt unsatisfactory ferry service. No mention vras made of any change in the sailings of the ex- tra boats. I understand it is not proposed to alter the time of the 6 a.m. ferry nor the times of the present extra ferry. IVhy was this not stated on the voting card? This omission resulted in many people voting "No,u as they understood these also were to be changed. It would have been very little trouble to have shown either on the front or the back of the card the proposed schedule for the morning and evening rush hours and thus made it quite clear to the voters. There is no doubt but that the card was very poor- ly drafted, and only one result will be the outcome--the major- ity of the voters will vote uNo" on account of being "in the dark." As someone remarked: "It is as clear as mud." "Is the changed time to be in efFect all day?" "When is the last ferry in the evening?~And the money spent in printing and distribut- ing these cards has been wasted. No so long ago an article ap- peared in the oSunu regarding the heavy traific expected dur- ing the summer season and stat- ing that it would be necessary to give a twenty minutes'ervice during the rush hours. But we still have the same old unsatis- factory service. How does one expect to see a municipality go ahead with transportation rates (boats and bus) minimum 11 1-2 cents each way accompanied by an inferior service 7 Even if the proposed change is turned down what is wrong with the manager making one trip during morning and evening rush hours to help out the situa- tion, and thus let the people see he has the interests of the muni- cipality at heart. There is, I un- derstand, a spare engineer in the sheds, also another on the buses, and a spare boat, so, with little extra expense and all pulling to- gether, I see no reason why faci- lities can not be improved. In conclusion I would like to offer the following suggestion as to change of schedule:-- Change time of regular fer- ries leaving Ambleside to 15 minutes after the hour and from Vancouver 15 minutes to the hour. Extra ferries to leave Amble- side at 6.46 and 7.45 a.m. Evening service from Van- couver to be 5.20, 6.60, 6.20 and 6.60. This would give a late ferry leaving at 11.45 from the City. --I am, etc., "FOURTEEN YEAR RATF.- PAYER." The Hollyburn Theatre is of- fering a bargain next week. Cut the advertisement which appears on Page 2 of THE NEWS and it will admit two people for the price of one, l.e., 30 cents. Horticultural Assn.
