001B6B43 I'irnccr 2nd pronl&neat Ieni- &,cnts of West, Vancouver &.nay be invited by the Municipal Council to form a conlnlitlee to choose appropriate names for several of, the bays, covcs and points of West Vancouver. The Federal department of Marine and I'ishcries recently ma&le a suggestion to this effect. After a thorough investigatinn by the Department of Marine an&1 I ishcrics of the question of uan&"s in that area of the coast between Atkinson 'oint and I-lorseshoe Bay the following names are mentioned:: (a). I Skunk Cove--lies in a northeasterly direction and 6 cables from Atkinson Point. (b). Steep Bluff--lies in a northerly direction aml 7 cables from Atkinson Point. To the eastward of this point are East and West Islands. (c). Fisher&nan's Cove --one mile and 4 cal&les north of At- kinson Point. (d). Eagle Island--forms the north entrance to Fis'herman's Cove. (e). Eagle I larbour--eastward of Eagle Island with its main entrance to the north of the is- land. ('f). Copper Point--lies 9 cables north-westerly of Eagle Island. (g). Bird Island--about one cat&le west of Copper Point. (h). White Cliff Point--)ies 6 cables northeasterly of Copper Island. (i). Horseshoe Bay--one mile northeasterly from White Cliff Point. With the exception of Atkin- son Point which was named by Captain Vancouver, in 1792, «Il the above names are stated to bc "objectional" to the Geogra- phic Board of Canada. It is suggested, therefore, that the Municipal Council supply the Otta&va denartment with a list of 25 or 30 prominent citizens or early pioneers of AVest Van- couver so that there may be sub- mitted to the Geographic Board of Canada. If, however, the Council pre- fers to rename these covcs, is- lands and points it is suggested 1Vilson, pupil of Mr. J. D. A. Tr'pp, at Dundarave Hall, on the evening of Thursday, june 10 at 8.15. Increased Water Level Planned A comprehensive scheme is under consideration by the West I ancouver Council whereby water may be brought from Eagle Lake, some distance east of Whytecliff and northwest of Caulfeild, which will provide a supply sufficient for the needs of the whole municipality for all &IS1e. Eagle I ake comprises about t&velve acres and is about 50 f&.et deep, being fed by streams tbe sources of which are in the mountains north of Hull&hnrn Ridge. The proposed system will act as auxiliary feeder to the existing plant, which con- sists of a six-inch main from Capilano, the %Vest Bay, Bro- thers Creek and Nelson Creek systems. These, however, can only supply water as high as 4CO feet above sca level. Due to rapid'expansion and increased building in the munici- pality, it has been found neces- sary to furnish water to higher levels. Under the proposed scheme water under pressure will l&e available as high as the 1600-foot level, and will give an adequate supply to LVhytecliff Caulfeild and Cypress. that at least 3 choices for each be given. A short history of the person after whom the feature is named is also desired. Th~@4 VNan B.XA45a, recently started had Its first practice last Saturday aTtcr)n&on. A fine showing was macle bv all the boys that turned out. Soon. let us hope, they will put )Vest Vancouver on the sporting map, so far, at least, as baseball is concerned. Re- cruits are being gained everyday, and with steady practice a strong team to represent West Van seems assured.
