Grants to the HistoricaiSociety West Vancouver Community Foundation Book committee Chairman Jim Carter and Rod Day, the West Vancouver Historical Society's President, are presented a cheque for $5000.00 from The West Vancouver Community Foundation chair, Nancy Farran this last spring. The Municipality of West Vancouver This last June, the Municipality of West Vancouver, through its Community Grants Program, awarded $2000.00 to the Society's West Vancouver Stories project under the direction of Board member Laura Anderson. This project began last summer as a formal collection of the oral histories of West Vancouver residents. The interviews were professionally videotaped. Once they have been digitized they will be available in the municipal archives as a record of our history. More information is available on the Society's website and Facebook page. From the West Van Library by Julie Backer West Vancouver Librarian Local author and C.B.C. radio personality Grant Lawrence brings his new book Dirty Windshields: The Best and Worst of the Smugglers Tour Diaries to West Vancouver Memorial Library for an intimate and engaging evening of readings, a book signing, slide show, Q & A, and live musical performance. In 1988, Lawrence and his friends from Hillside Secondary formed the Smugglers, a rock 'n' roll band bent on touring the world. They started with countless thankless gigs all over the North Shore, but eventually they chased their rock dreams to various corners of the planet. Lawrence kept diaries the entire time, and they form the narrative backbone of the new book. In this interactive event at 7 pm Wednesday, September 27, 2017 in West Vancouver Memorial Library's Welsh Hall, Grant Lawrence will read various salacious sections from the book, answer questions and sign books, show slides, and do a live acoustic performance of old Smugglers' songs.
