THE Qlnrrntutinn OF OUR (ueitt EtiuI.wt1 ON THIS DAY is a great event in the life of the British people and the Commonwealth as a whole. It is an occasion of pomp and pageantry, of heartfelt happiness and real rejoicing for today a greatly loved monarch is crowned. It is of course a holiday, but it is also a holy day; time of solemn dedication, for in the Abbey of the great church of West minster Her Majesty is not only crowned, but also hallowed, anointed and set apart as Head of Church and State: Upon her descends the heaviest burden of responsibility that could rest upon the shoulders of any person at this moment of history. Not all who have ruled this realm have added lustre to the Crown but we have been singularly blessed in our Queens, three of whom have left names in history that will never die. Now, as trumpets sound a fanfare for Elizabeth of Windsor, daughter of an illustrious house, inheritor of a great tradition, we offer the allegiance of heart and hand to one who is a worthy successor to the Crown and Sceptre of this truly remarkable Commonwealth and family of Nations. We see in our Sovereign the symbol of Freedom, Justice and Loyalty that unites us as a free people. In honouring the Crown we do honour to ourselves, and on this Coronation Day we dedicate our selves anew to these principles that have contributed so much to the well-being of our Nation and of mankind.
