West Vancouver Memorial Friday Night Concert Series News The Library's 2008/09 Free Friday Night Concert Series season opened on October 24th with a spectacular performance from local jazz singer Rebecca Jenkins. Backed by her husband Joel Bakan on guitar, Liam McDonald on drums, Bruce Meikle on bass and Bill Abbott on saxophone, a crowd of over 150 people were wowed by a set that featured Rebecca singing jazz standards from her 2007 solo album Blue Skies In addition to the fantastic music, the audience enjoyed refreshments generously provided by the Friends of the Library. A fabulous time was had by all. For the first half of 2009 the library has four concerts scheduled, and music lovers will be delighted by the eclectic line up of artists. First up, on January 30 is local sax quartet, Saxalamode, who will entertain us with tangos and jazz tunes. On Februrary 27, fans of classical guitar will have an opportunity to take in a set from engaging performer Daniel Bolshoy. And on April 3rd, concert goers will be treated to the Vancouver Opera in the Schools performance of Jack Pine, based on the children's book of the same name. Rounding out the season is the Vancouver International Jazz Festival Concert, which will mark the library's fourth season partnering with North Shore Jazz. This diverse and talented group of performers promises to entertain a wide array of music fans, and make our sixth Friday Night Concert Series a huge success. www.westvanlibrary.ca
