West Vancouver Memorial Harry Greenwood, Chair West Vancouver Memorial Library Board I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone who donated to the Library Foundation's annual campaign last year. The donor boards at the East end of the Main Hall have been updated. Everyone who donated in 2007 is listed on the Annual Campaign Board on the South wall just before the Fiction Department. If your donations in the past 15 years add up to one of the giving levels on the permanent donor boards, your name will be added to the appropriate category. These Boards recognize gifts to the Library Foundation since the Special Edition Campaign. If you made a donation to Special Edition, you are recognized on the permanent bronze plaque next to the stairs to the Youth Department. Your gifts and donations to the Foundation come to the Library and they make an important contribution to the quality of the library service we all enjoy. They have supported a variety of ongoing book funds as well as major projects such as the renovations to the Youth Department and the new shelving and lighting in the West Wing. From one library supporter to another - Thank you. Hatched, Matched & Dispatched... The West Vancouver Memorial Library is the only North Shore library (and one of only a handful in BC) to offer the complete B C birth, death, and marriage records on microfilm. These are unaltered copies of the original records of all births, marriages, and deaths registered in the province of British Columbia since 1872 (and sometimes earlier). Details captured in these records might include a person's full name, date of birth, marriage, or death, occupation, place of residence, parents' names, place of origin, and more. This is essential information for any genealogist, and can provide tantalizing clues about a family's history. One thing to be aware of: privacy laws in BC protect personal information. Records are only made available publicly after a set number of years have passed: · Birth records 120 years after date of birth · Marriage records 75 years after date of event · Death records 20 years after date of event For more recent records, you'll need to apply to the Vital Statistics Agency directly. To view the BC birth, marriage and death records on microfilm, just visit the Reference Department on the Lower Level. We'll be happy to help you find the information you need. Once you find a record of interest, there is a small charge of $0.25 to print a copy for yourself. www.westvanlibrary.ca
