West Vancouver Memorial Library Harry Greenwood, Chair West Vancouver Memorial Library Board The Library as a Community Place Many of us remember the library of the past. It was a place of quiet and study; a place to find a book or look at an encyclopaedia; a place to go to have a question answered. While all of this is still true to some degree or other, today's library is much more. It is a gathering place for the community; it is a hub of culture and literacy; it is the source of a rich website that reaches out over the Internet into our homes to provide old service in new ways. As the Internet has become more and more useful as a tool for finding information, the library has increasingly become a place to meet friends for a program, take a computer course or visit virtually over the Internet. Every day approximately 1,500 people come to the West Vancouver Memorial Library in person and another 550 visit electronically by entering our website. The changing nature of libraries in the 21st century has not diminished the way we use our library - it has enriched it and the library continues to be a cornerstone of our community.
