West Vancouver Memorial Library - Spring 2007 - Issue 13 The Inquiring Mind The Library's New Website - Bookmark It! Visit www.westvanlibrary.ca to see the library's new website! Why did we redesign our site? Our previous website was built in 2001. Since then, a lot has changed! More and more of you are using the library via the internet from home, work or school. A lot of information - including magazine and newspaper articles, phone directories, encyclopedias, and much more - has moved online. You can now place holds and renew books online (and soon, you'll be able to apply for cards and pay fines, too). We're even offering live online reference service! What's New? This new site aims to connect you to the information you need as easily as possible - whether it's information about events at the library, placing a hold, or finding newspaper articles. Know exactly what you're looking for? We identified the most popular parts of our website - like Your Account and the library catalogue - and made it easier to find them. We've also listed new books right on the library homepage! Not quite sure what you want? We made it easier to find what you need. Instead of "Catalogue", we now have Find Books, Movies, Music. Instead of "e-Resources" we now have the Research Centre with sections dedicated to Magazine & Newspaper Articles, Encyclopedias & Dictionaries, and more. Need help? Try out our new site search engine. Or click AskAway to get help from real librarians via chat, email, or telephone. Bookmark it! We want the library website to be your gateway to information. Bookmark www.westvanlibrary.ca today, and get connected to the information you need, 24/7. From the Director of Library Services Ann Goodhart The Library now offers residents better access to information thanks to a new, free online information service called AskAway. A collaborative project of B.C.'s public and post-secondary libraries, AskAway provides real-time answers to users' questions from expert searchers - librarians from across BC. Just click on AskAway. Type in your question, and a librarian will join you online to help you find the information you need, on topics ranging from local history to recommended reading to the Canada Pension Plan. An Internet connection is all you need to use AskAway. Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., you can access information from wherever you are by simply visiting the library's website. askaway.. www.westvanlibrary.ca tel. 604.925.7400 1950 Marine Drive, West Vancouver, BC, V7V 1J8
