West Vancouver Memorial Library Bernhard Lauser, Chair West Vancouver Memorial Library Board During 2005, the Library staff and the Board spent time developing a new Strategic Plan to cover 2006 through 2010. A s part of the process, we developed new Vision and Mission Statements for the Library which are as follows: VISION - To be recognized as the cornerstone of a literate, well informed and culturally nourished community. MISSION - The Library is an open, free and welcoming place. We connect people with ideas, information and cultures of the world. We enrich lives and are relevant and accessible to all. Although short, it is hard to believe how much thought and time go into crafting this kind of statement but I can truly say that these do an excellent job of expressing the Library's role in the community as we see it. During the past few years, staff have done an exceptional job of providing programs that do indeed connect West Vancouver with the cultures of the world. W e have had exhibits of carpets from Iran, exhibits of sculpture, photographs and paintings as well as musical concerts ranging from Cuban to classical and gospel to opera. In addition, there were many visiting authors from across C a n a d a including some of Canada's best who live right here on the North Shore. The Library takes great pride in the quality of our programs and your responses to our surveys indicate that these programs are well received by all of you.
