North Shore Writers Festival April 8th - 17th 2005 Our sixth annual festival of Canadian writers and readers features storytellers, poets, songwriters, novelists...and even dancers. The B.C. Government Writers in Libraries program, the Friends of the Libraries, the District of North Vancouver, the North Shore News and 32 Books are sponsoring this year's festival that is run by your three North Shore Libraries. West Vancouver will be featuring Sharon Butala who explores the spiritual dimensions of her particular corner of the prairies. Patrick Lane, one of Canada's best-known poets, speaks of the dark side of experience; There is a Season: A Memoir in a Garden documents his journey to conquer alcoholism. Russell Thornton, whose House Built of Rain was short -listed for the Dorothy Livesay B.C. Book Prize, will be joining Lane. A NSWF World Premiere, A Night of Moving Words, will feature Nick Bantock, creator of Griffin and Sabine, and Mascall Dance, founded by Jennifer Mascall, in a multi-disciplinary narrative event. Other readings will showcase Anita Rau Badami, Sparkle Hayter, Melanie Ray, Charles Montgomery, Audrey Thomas and Bob Bossin. Our Writer-in-Residence, Crawford Kilian, will spend time at each of the libraries holding free, preregistered mentoring sessions for budding writers. We will also be holding a special Book Group Discussion about Anita Rau Badami's Hero's Walk.
