The Inquiring Mind Gift of a Festival We celebrated the fifth annual North Shore Writers Festival in April, bringing together authors, poets, historians, and playwrights for a week of readings and events. The three North Shore libraries co-hosted the events and West Vancouver presented John Bishop, Des Kennedy and Pandora's Poetry Collective. Poetry was celebrated in our limerick contest and the winner won a dinner at Bishop's Restaurant. The BCLA Merit Award for Programs and Services recognized the success of this year's festival and was awarded jointly to the three libraries. This popular festival would not be possible without the ongoing gift of funding from the Friends of the Library, as well as assistance from the B.C. Writers in Libraries program of the provincial government. Meet Janet Phillips - Coordinator of Home Library Service "Having worked in various departments at this library, I now find myself very much 'at home' coordinating the Home Library Service. My passion for helping seniors has grown from previous work experiences and contact with the elderly. I have a wonderfully interesting group of patrons of all ages and levels of disabilities. I grew up in the U.K. and share a keen interest with many of my patrons for library materials with a European flavour." Look for Janet in the Library or out in the community, visiting her patrons and spreading the word to seniors' groups. She also drives the Bookmobile to Gleneagles Community Centre every Thursday morning. If you cannot come to the Library, we can come to you! We select materials for the homebound, according to their needs and wishes. They can either be picked up by family or friends or delivered to you by the Friends of the Library volunteer drivers. If you are homebound, disabled or unable to read print books, please call Janet at 925-7437 to find out if you qualify for Taped Books and/or Home Service. Funding from The West Vancouver Memorial Library Foundation supports both our Large Print and Taped Books collections.
