For ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AGES 'Anything can happen when you read!' The theme of the province-wide Summer Reading Club 2004 is "Anything can happen when you read!" Local artist Dianna Bonder has creative magical artwork for our poster and reading booklet. Reading club members maintain their reading skills over the summer and have fun developing the habit of using the library. For TEENS RAP yourself in a book A special club for teens features a reading record packaged in a CD case! Many local businesses have donated terrific prizes for teens who will report on their books in person or by email. Thanks to Public Library Services Branch, Ministry of Community, Aboriginal and Women's Services, British Columbia Library Association, Friends of the West Vancouver Memorial Library and many local businesses for their Summer Reading Club support. From the Chief Librarian Ann Goodhart The next 10 months will bring changes to the Library. We have several projects that will change the physical layout of the space. The funding comes from two generous bequests to the Library with support from Council for a portion of the work. We will be improving the front entrance by enlarging the vestibule and adding automatic doors. This will include some changes to the landscaping and planting beds in front of the Library. It will create a more attractive entrance area with a new sign and an improved courtyard at the front of the building. We will be adding a music listening room thanks to a bequest designated to foster music appreciation. In addition we will be making other changes to the main hall to give us a little more space for a concert series we plan to begin in the fall. In addition, we will be adding a new program room on the third floor roof deck. This will allow us to spread out a little in the Youth Department. We will gain an improved area for teens and room to expand the collection. The Library Foundation is raising money this year to help us with the renovation. It will be an exciting year with some disruptions during construction. We will keep them to a minimum. Thank you for your patience! I think you will enjoy the results. www.westvanlib.org tel. 604.925.7400 1950 Marine Drive, West Vancouver BC V7V 1J8
