West Vancouver Memorial Library · The Inquiring Mind (continued from previous page) library record, and renew materials if no one is waiting for them. The most fantastic resource on our website is access to electronic databases. The library pays a licensing fee so you don't have to. These are not something you can access free on the Internet. On our website, all you need is a library card. This service provides access to thousands of magazines and many encyclopedias. You can look up subjects and read articles anytime day or night. How well does it work? A search for "long term care" in Canada found over 30 full text articles. A search on "sea turtles" pulled up over 270 articles including some pictures. These articles are available through your computer at home or work as well as in the Library. VISIT US AT www.westvanlib.org ANY TIME, FROM ANY COMPUTER CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET WHAT'S NEW The Library's catalogue has something new. We have added small images of book jackets. In addition, you may see a button that is slightly larger than the other buttons on the screen that says "More About this Book". This button will open up a menu of other material that may include reviews, a synopsis, lists of other titles in a series and even excerpts from the book in some cases. This is a new service for public libraries. You may have seen something similar on Amazon.ca or other sites that sell books over the Internet. While it is mostly limited to the hardcover edition of newer titles at this time, coverage should increase in the coming years. We hope you enjoy it! Gallery at the Library Presents Monthly Art Exhibits The North Shore is home to many talented artists and the Library is pleased to be a showcase for their artistic achievements. In 2002, thirty-two artists exhibited a range of artwork including paintings, photographs, and carvings. Library patrons are invited to attend the monthly art receptions, which are held on the first Friday of every month from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. and are hosted by the Friends of the Library.
