SUMMER'S GONE ALREADY? Grace Kravac Our second annual Strawberry Tea which was served by the Executive, was a huge success. Red, ripe, luscious fresh local strawberries topped with whipping cream and served on Barbara Drummond's home-made sponge cake was a mouth-watering delight. We also served a wonderful apple crumble made by none other than Chad Arsenault, the Library's Maintenance Supervisor. Thank you to all the Friends and Library staff who helped make this Tea/Meeting a special affair. Margaret Mould, Librarian, thanked everyone who volunteered hosting the many author visits and for our support of the North Shore Writers' Festival. She presenting the Friends with a box of delicious Purdy's chocolates, which rapidly disappeared. We do enjoy our goodies! And yet, another party. The Executive, the "Pit" and Book Cart volunteers, who steadfastly tend the cart year-round, were treated to an enjoyable summer tea hosted by Patricia Treadwell and Chris the butler, dressed in his formal attire. This is Patricia's way of recognizing and thanking the Friends for their many hours of work and also a way of keeping in touch over the summer months. A very thoughtful gesture. The book cart sales to June 20 total $6,717. Our $347. cheque for the books left over from our March book sale finally arrived from Discover Books. Consequently, this puts the total for our March book sale at $4,016. Well done! The Library's Concert Series is increasing in popularity and we are now hosting crowds of up to 300 people. These free concerts are a legacy of the Library's benefactor Robert Leslie Welsh, and administered by Sue Kent, Librarian. As always, the Friends of the Library offer punch and cookies to the audience before the performance. Thank you to all the volunteers who do such a spectacular job serving such large crowds. The membership has approved Ann Goodhart's request for funding to re-upholster 50 wood chairs with padded seats and backs, and replacement of seat cushions for the West Wing study nooks. These projects will total approximately $6,200., and are scheduled for completion in 2009.
